What is geomembrane used for? It is so interesting to talk about it since so many people have discussed the functions and benefits of this material.

Geomembrane is one of the geosynthetic materials in the form of impermeable sheets made of synthetic materials such as plastic. Its characteristics are impermeable to liquids.

Besides that, it can be shaped, connected, and combined easily using a hot wedge machine or extruder. There are so many reasons why you should use it for a site.

What is Geomembrane Used For

Not without reason, these items are widely used in various construction projects. These plastic sheets are used in the ground as a waterproof barrier.

In some countries, the most widely used geomembrane material is the HDPE type. Compared to ordinary tarpaulins, these products offer some better functions because they have various advantages.

One of them is that it can be used as an impermeable layer to separate solid and liquid materials. Usually, it is in the form of waste and non-waste.

If used for landfill, for example, they keep the bottom soil underneath preserved and unpolluted. It is because of their impermeable nature characteristic and that is what is geomembrane used for .

Benefits of Geomembranes in Life

For ordinary people, the term geomembrane may sound familiar. In fact, actually, the benefits of these things are quite a lot in life. Here are some of them based on several sources.

1.     Applied to landfill

The landfill is the location of the last stage of waste management since it starts to arise from source, collection, transfer, processing, to disposal. What is geomembrane used for there?

In landfills, they play an essential role as the most important barrier in the anti-seepage system. It can also be used as the main material for closing the landfill if that area must be closed due to the accumulation of garbage.

It is especially true if they increasingly trigger flies, bacteria, and foul odors that affect the surrounding environment. The use of a Geomembrane will help that condition.

2.     For the place of cultivation

For cultivation sites, such as fish farming, geomembranes are needed to prevent pond water from decreasing due to tides. In other words, they are useful for maintaining the survival of farmed fish.

These plastics replace the use of ordinary tarpaulins which have many disadvantages. Those disadvantages are prone to leaking, not resistant to heat and rain, and short service life.

For cultivation sites, HDPE types are the most widely used because they are made of high-density polyethylene. That is why; they are more resistant and durable.

3.     Creating an artificial lake

What is geomembrane used for next is In making artificial lakes. They are useful for preventing leakage. Because there is still the possibility of cracks on the bottom or wall of the lake that has been cast once.

By using geomembranes, reduced water volume due to seeping into the soil can be prevented. These products also prevent the seepage of bacteria from the soil into the lake area.

4.     Pond lining for garden and pond

It is also useful as a fluid retention layer for parks and ponds. Those are the retention baths and hazardous surface blockages. Pond lining must be protected from sharp objects (e.g. rocks) under the coating.

It must be secured from being punctured by any objects in the body of water. Well, that is what is geomembrane used for and the benefits so far.
