Weeds are unwanted plants that interfere with the growth of main crops. To protect plants so they can grow healthily, pest control fabric must be used. One type is geofabric for weed control. It prevents light from reaching weed seeds so they do not grow back.
Steps for Installing Geofabric for Weed Control
Geofabric is very practical, easy to install, protects the soil from drying out, and is suitable for beginners. Here are some ways to install weed control fabric.
Clean the Planting Area
The first step in installing a weed barrier is to clean the planting area of existing weeds. Although geofabric can suppress weed growth, to achieve maximum results, pull out the weeds first so they do not grow back from under the fabric. Apply weed spray to the beds before installing the weed barrier. Alternatively, weeds can be removed manually. Ensure that the weeds are completely dead.
Soil Preparation
The second step is to loosen and level the soil before installation. This is important because once the geofabric is installed, the soil cannot be reworked. In addition, you must also ensure that the soil is fertile and has good drainage. Make sure the soil is loose and has good air circulation. This is because once the fabric is installed, animals such as earthworms that work to loosen the soil will not be able to work optimally underneath it. Compact soil makes it difficult for plant roots to grow and absorb nutrients.

Measure and Cut to Size
The next step is to use a ruler or measuring tape to adjust the geofabric to the land. If necessary, it is best to buy geofabric that is wider so that it is easier to install. Then place the weed barrier without any plants inside it. In addition, it is best to leave an extra 10-15 cm on each side to fold under as additional protection for weeds that may grow from the edges. This can also cause the weeds to die completely due to lack of sunlight. So, holes will be made after planting is ready.
Use Staples or Plant Pegs
To prevent the geofabric from shifting, use landscape staples or plant pegs at each corner, as well as along the length of the geofabric. The more you secure it, the stronger it will adhere and the less likely it will be lifted.
Mark and Cut Plant Holes
Mark the planting position before planting. The mark can be in the shape of an X or O. Avoid making holes that are too large as they will become gaps for weeds to grow.
Add Mulch on Top of the Geotextile
After the fabric is installed, add a 10-15 cm thick layer of mulch on top. This will add pressure to the fabric to keep it in place. This will maintain moisture and hide the fabric so that the plants look natural and neat.

Check Regularly
The last step in using weed control is to check the edges or planting holes. This is to ensure that weeds do not creep in. If there are any weeds growing, pull them out immediately. This is done to prevent them from spreading.
Geofabric for weed control is a solution to control weeds while maintaining soil moisture. By taking the right steps clearing weeds, loosening the soil, adjusting the size, and adding mulch plants become neater, healthier, and require minimal maintenance from weed infestations that hinder plant growth.
